Point Equity

The majority of points should come from teachers who are rewarding academic achievement. How can we

  1. make it easier for teachers to award and report points, and
  2. show them how easy it is without acting like nannies at some staff meeting.

1. I don't know offhand how to make it easier, as I didn't think it was particularly difficult to begin with. The general response seems to have been "I don't have time to do that," and while I understand that feeling, what I wanted to say was, "What, you don't have a few seconds?" Again, I'll float this idea NOT because I think it would work or because I am recommending it, but because maybe it will spark a better idea from someone. What I like to imagine is having a little voice recorder into which I say "5 points to Excelsior," and then I give my little recorder to a Scribe who tallies all the points I have on it. That way I could just say it as I'm grading; or even carry it around on campus and give or take points for behavior much more readily. Again, I'm not actually saying we should do this, because it would be difficult, but maybe you guys can spring from that into something more practical.

2. OK, I think I have a good idea for this one. However we decide to do the point recording, whether it's the old way, a modified version of the old way, or an entirely new way, let's get it figured out before that week and shoot a humorous "instructional video." Perhaps like an infomercial format, with pointless rhyming at the beginning that doesn't carry through the rest, like the Snuggie one.

You grade and you ache in all of your joints,
and it's just too hard to record those House points.

What to do? Well now there's....

I think if we can get them to laugh at how silly it is to say it takes too much time and effort, we can get more people just to give it a go. As long as it's only a few minutes, I'm sure Shawn will let us show it at a meeting.
