Not Much Scuttlebutt

Heads and Interested Others--

I check in here every couple of days, but haven't seen much new here of late. Part of that is my fault for posting my "schedule" a couple weeks back. Part of that is the "let's relax" necessity of the profession. Bearing that in mind:

1. We do need to meet some time in the prep week before school starts. I don't see any major conflicts among us, but there are a couple of issues out there which we need to lash down before school begins. We come back Thursday 8/6, right? That's largely drenched with meetings. Friday we'll be staffing a table. I will be on campus starting either Tuesday or Wednesday--probably just for a few hours--can we set up a time?

2. These issues are, to me, the following

  • Point equity. I have no problem with Conor coming last in 2009. I don't have any idea how we were so far behind though.
  • With point equity comes two issues: raising staff involvement and improving sorting.
  • Also, if we could have a calendar in place taking us through the first semester, complete with what inter-house activities/ competitions shall be held and when, we could remove that meandering feeling I had last year. I don't mind making things up as I go along, but it's a deuced difficult way to establish tradition.
  • Revisit the notion of House Facebook pages. We could run it like the ECHS Alumni page. I can't see any problem with it.

Thanks,

Mel

Agreed that we need to meet, and agreed on the items. I, too, think it's especially important that we have a calendar; but I would suggest that we also work on at least a tentative calendar for second semester. My reason is that while we did well enough first semester last year, second semester we did barely anything, because it's so busy that we just didn't really get around to it. If we put of making a 2nd semester calendar too long, it will suddenly be 2nd semester and we won't have one. We do have the calendars for the school year, and where holidays, grading periods, etc. fall; so if we can make a 1st semester schedule, we should be able to make a 2nd semester one too.

Maybe we should meet that Tuesday or Wednesday over lunch--I mean at a restaurant. That might allow our conversation and ideas to flow a little more and make us feel OK with letting it take as long as it takes. Plus, we can get unlimited iced tea or whatever your beverage of choice is.

With regard to the House Facebook pages, I still don't see that there's a problem with it, and I'm willing to discuss it again; but we might want to hold off on that. Without being too specific in case there are any lurkers reading this, there may be some significant changes next year at ECHS in general, and it might not be the best time to revisit that particular issue.

I thought we started back Wednesday the 5th, however I am probably wrong. Meeting any of the days the week before students are back is doable, and a restaurant does sound better than school. Calendar and points being the most important needs to resolve and/or plan. I hope this posts, I have had trouble with this process.
